It is interesting that the style of writing changes in this fourth book of the series. I read the first chapter to test its premise and the narrative works fine. I found it funny that Anne’s new landlords gave her the tower room because it offers a nice view of the old graveyard, as though this is a keen selling point. But I’m getting ahead of ourselves.
As you write about the spring blooms in your yard, so Anne writes about the plants around her new home. In my own garden, the minor bulbs are nearly done while the early daffodils and tulips are coming into full bloom. The promise of the garden in spring is wonderful to behold.
I do like how we can look forward to your journal entries every Friday. The consistency makes it simple to plan my weekly reads and I appreciate your approach. Thank you.
Anne of Windy Poplars/Willows, as well as Anne of Ingleside, were written & published much later than the other books, out of sequence, in response to readers' & publishers' demands for "more Anne," which might account (at least in part) for the different style.
Loving reading this series, I'd only ever read Anne of Green Gables so am enjoying following her adventures as she grows up. As far as her new lodgings go, at least you have quiet neighbours overlooking the graveyard 😆. We have bluebells out in our local woods, Anne would be in raptures about them.
I also noticed that there is quite a big gap between when Book 3 was published (1915) and when Book 4 was published (1936). I didn't know that Book 4 is an epistolary novel. It will be interesting to compare. Looking forward to continuing this journey with you!
